Verification in Arms Control and Disarmament
Verification activities have been central to demonstrating commitment to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), with some State Parties currently working on abilities to verify the adherence and maintenance of nuclear disarmament in the future. However, questions remain over what verification mechanisms will be in place under the newly entered-into-force Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). And although the New START agreement between the United States and Russia has recently been extended for five years, verification options for any future arms control agreements continue to require urgent attention.
Our event discusses the role and prospects of verification regimes in future arms control agreements, within the NPT process and under the TPNW.
This event is organised in two parts.
Part 1 consists of a panel discussion, and be open to all those who register to attend.
Part 2 follows from the panel discussion and will allow members of the UK Project on Nuclear Issues (PONI) to network by engaging in small, informal, breakout group discussions with the speakers. If you are an early career attendee or member of the UK PONI network and want to take part in these smaller group discussions with the speakers, please indicate this when you register.
